Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 22, 2022.

The Privacy Policy on this page details the manner in which drawball.io (referred to as “the Website”) collects, uses, communicates and discloses personal information collected from users of the Website.

Identifiable Information

The Website does not explicitly request personal information from its users for the usage of the Website, with the exception of the Feedback option that has the option for users to send their device information (such as browser and operating system) for diagnostic purposes.

For the proper functioning of the website, a user account is automatically generated for each visitor that is not already associated with an account by the browser (see Local Storage). User accounts have a ‘private key’, which is a string of 48 alphanumeric characters that can be used to access, or ‘log in’ the account. Through a cryptographic process, the private key is converted to a ‘public key’, which can be seen by other users on the website and can be used to identify another user account. Activity on the website, as further detailed in the Terms of Service, is associated with this user account.

No device data (as detailed in the section Log Data) is associated with an account in order to preserve anonymity. However, users are able to voluntarily provide an alias name and profile picture, that may or may not contain personally identifiable information. Profile pictures can only be generated from content available on the Website, i.e. no pictures can be uploaded.

Log Data

Device data includes, but is not limited to, the type of device (laptop or mobile or tablet), the operating system, device settings, and geo-location data such as an IP address.

We use Plausible for web analytics, which is a GDPR-compliant third-party software package. Plausible does not store nor collect any personal data or personally identifiable information, provides aggregate information only (i.e. does it retain personal data entries), and does not track across devices or different websites. For the full data policy of Plausible we refer to https://plausible.io/data-policy and for more information we refer to https://plausible.io/privacy-focused-web-analytics . Plausible is installed on our own servers, guaranteeing that any data collected by Plausible does not leave the Website.

The Website does not collect and store device data, with the exception of the Feedback option that has the option for users to send their device information (such as browser and operating system) for diagnostic purposes. The user’s IP address is processed for the sole purpose of load balancing, i.e. providing the optimal webserver for the geographic location of the user, and to prevent spamming or excessive website activity from a single device.

Local Storage

Local storage refers to information objects that are stored locally by the browser and can be read and written through interaction with the Website. Local storage is persistent, meaning it has no expiry date. Local storage cannot be accessed directly by the web server. We do not use “cookies”.

The Website uses local storage for the purposes of:

  – Storing the Private Key, used for accessing the user account.

  – Saving the preferences accessible in the settings menu, by clicking the cog item in the top right of the screen of the Website. Preferences include but are not limited to remembering the preferences for light/dark mode, interaction preferences such a scrolling speed and zoom speed, sharing your virtual location on the ball of the Website, keyboard shortcuts.

Security

We strive to protect any information gathered from our users and use the industry accepted standards for the transmission of information over the internet.

Updates to the Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective as of August 22, 2022. The Privacy Policy may be updated periodically and without prior notice to the users of the Website. Users are advised to review the Privacy Policy periodically. Any revisions of the Privacy Policy in the future are effective immediately after being posted on this page.
